Welcome to
Lonnie Bruhn, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth, returns home in August to perform his new show, “Uncensored Upfront and Honest”. When he does you will not hear many rants about his disability. “That’s what makes me different then other disabled comedians.” Bruhn says. However, you will find that when he does broach the subject, it will be anything but sugar-coated. After finishing up his own national tour he was on since 2006 entitled, “Cripple xXx” which helped raise money for “UCP” or UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY FOUNDATION. He says he is anxious to perform to a hometown crowd. Bruhn was the youngest comedian to win the Portland Laugh off at the age of nineteen. Now at the age of 36 he has been on two national tours, performed in 30 states and also internationally. He has opened up for such comedians as Doug Stanhope, the co-host of Comedy Central’s “The Man Show”, he is a regular guest on Local radio’s “The Marconi Show” on K.U.F.O. and is well known for his controversial style of comedy through out the Northwest. He has even been banned from Portland’s Harvey’s Comedy Club for his edgy, off-colored humor. “Some have labeled me as a dirty comedian or as a shock comic but I prefer to describe my comedy as brutally honest.” Lonnie explained. “Look, there are many styles of comedy, from guitar and magic acts to alternative and clean. Crowds don’t care what style we use unless they walk out without laughing. I make people laugh; I just don’t like to be told how I should do it.” He added. When it comes to his disability he isn’t afraid to talk about it, he just doesn’t like to make it his entire act he said. “There are so many disabled comedians who use their physical challenges as a crutch to perform a feel-good show for the audience. That gets old. I have a disability; there are funny aspects to the everyday life I live but I have plenty more to say.” This show is different than the normal three
person format Lonnie offered. He was also adamant to point out he likes to
promote home grown talent. The show will feature the musical stylings of
The Steve Harris Three-o, followed by a viewing of some short films by a
well known up-and-coming director, Bobby Hacker and then a fresh new face
in the comedy stand-up scene, Noah Kort. Finally Lonnie will hit the stage
with a rant style humor sharing real stories and secrets most people would
be too ashamed to speak. “My show is more like a confessional with
punch-lines.” He did caution, however, this show is not suitable for
all audiences.
